WHAT WE DO

What business continuity planning covers

Business continuity planning is the process of identifying the activities, systems and resources your business relies on, and planning for how you would keep operating if any of them became unavailable. For a cyber incident, that means knowing in advance:
Which systems are critical to your operations
How you would continue to work if those systems were taken offline
What your data backup position is, and how quickly you can restore from it
Who is responsible for making decisions in a crisis and in what order
How you would communicate with clients, staff and suppliers during an active incident
What your obligations are under UK GDPR regarding breach notification
NEXT STEPS

Incident response planning

A business continuity plan covers how you keep operating. An incident response plan covers how you respond to and contain the incident itself.
A good incident response plan describes the immediate steps your team takes when a cyber incident is identified: who is contacted, how the incident is logged, what steps are taken to contain the breach, when and how the ICO is notified if personal data is involved, and how systems are safely recovered.
The Rybec Group builds incident response plans that reflect how your business works, not a generic document that sits in a folder until it is too late to help.
STRUCTURED SESSIONS

Tabletop exercises

The best way to test a plan is to run through it before you need it. The Rybec Group facilitates tabletop exercises: structured sessions where your leadership and response team work through a simulated cyber incident, identifying how they would respond, where the gaps are and what needs to be strengthened.
These are practical, focused sessions. They typically take half a day and produce a clear list of improvements to your response planning. They are also one of the most effective ways of making sure your team knows what to do if the real thing happens.
DISASTER RECOVERY

Disaster recovery is the technical side of business continuity

How data is backed up, how systems are restored, how quickly normal operations can resume. The Rybec Group helps businesses assess their current backup and recovery position, identify where the risk lies, and put arrangements in place that are proportionate to what the business can afford to lose.

Why preparation matters even if you believe you are unlikely to be targeted

Cyber attacks on SMEs are more common than most businesses assume. Smaller organisations are frequently targeted because they are assumed to have fewer protections in place, not fewer. The businesses that recover well from incidents are not necessarily the ones with the most sophisticated security. They are the ones that had a plan, knew who to call and knew what to do next.
Preparation is not expensive relative to the cost of an unmanaged incident.
